Upping My Game

Now that I’m collaborating with two new pianists, Nishan and Patrick, I realize the need to step up my game. Typically, I’ve had a full year to prepare for my fall performance, but both Patrick and Nishan consistently arrive at rehearsals much better prepared than I’m used to. Consequently, my practice and lesson regimen has become more rigorous. I focus on mastering entire movements, addressing fingerings and bowings, and making deliberate choices regarding phrasing and expression.

This more aggressive and disciplined approach provides ample material for my teacher and me to delve into during lessons, allowing us to cover a significant amount of ground. To ensure balanced progress, I’ve implemented a structured practice schedule, ensuring I give adequate attention to all pieces and movements in my repertoire.

While I’ve yet to finalize any performances for the year, I’m assuming I will play in the usual places, including Lake George and Princeton in the fall. Additionally, I’m exploring opportunities for house concerts or renting venues like the Unitarian Church, All Saints, or the Present Day Club. In the past, I hesitated to approach Jeff for performances at these locations due to his piano preferences.

Stay tuned as I embrace this new level of dedication and excitement in my musical journey—it’s challenging, but incredibly rewarding!
